Shakespeare Workshop: Black Men
With Peter Bailey
This workshop is for participants that identify as black and male. The impetus for developing a workshop for black men is connected to the belief that all voices and experiences should be recognized and respected. With that being said, I believe there is great potential for community building and artistic growth for black male actors to not only explore and discover their voices, but also experience and discover what it means to create that space for other black men.
In learning how to deliver Shakespeare truthfully, and with clarity, participants will work individually and as an ensemble in exploring the connection between presence, the body, the breath, and speech, as well as learn what role form, and language play in the pursuit of embodying the words, and character.
